Thrive is a kava bar built as a wellness lounge: lab-tested kava and botanical drinks in a calm room with nature built in. No alcohol, no hangover, plenty of good company. Opening first in San Marcos, then Austin and New Braunfels.

Why Thrive
Alcohol built the last century’s meeting places. The next ones are being built without it.
A generation is drinking differently: going out just as much, drinking a lot less, and looking for somewhere to gather that leaves them better than it found them. Hundreds of kava bars have opened across the country to meet them, but no one has built the place you’d recognise in any town. That’s Thrive.

Kava is a traditional drink of the South Pacific, made from the root of the kava plant and shared from a shell. It’s known for calm and easy conversation, with no alcohol and no hangover.
It tastes earthy, and that’s part of the ritual. If a traditional shell isn’t your thing yet, a flavoured kava mocktail is the easy way in. Your kavatender will get you there.

Our founder’s first rule: every Thrive brings the outdoors in. We choose sites for river frontage, water views, courtyards and planted outdoor seating, then fill the room with light and green. Every one of our first three towns is a river town, which makes it easier.

The river towns
Three river towns. One easy loop.
We’re starting where the water is. San Marcos, Austin and New Braunfels sit within one short stretch of I-35, each with its own river, and each getting its own Thrive.
City editions
Every town gets its own Thrive.
The Thrive mark balances light and dark: botanicals and Día de los Muertos artwork around the kava bowl. Each town opens with its own edition of it, with its river front and centre.

What is kava?

Do you serve alcohol?
No. Thrive is an alcohol-free lounge, built as a wellness-first alternative to bar culture.
Is kava legal in Texas?
Yes. Kava is legal statewide as a beverage. Kratom is also legal in Texas under the Texas Kratom Consumer Protection Act, which limits sales to adults 18 and over, so we'll check ID for kratom.
How do I know what's in the cup?
Every batch is third-party lab tested, with Certificates of Analysis kept on file. We buy from two to three vetted suppliers per botanical, and we're working toward buying direct from farmers in the South Pacific and Southeast Asia.
When and where do you open?
San Marcos opens first, on the river corridor near Texas State, and we're targeting mid-2027. Austin follows, then New Braunfels. We open each lounge on what the one before it teaches us, so dates go to the founding list as soon as they're real.
Can I study or work there?
That's the idea. Every Thrive has a quiet study and work zone with high-tops, and the daytime lounge is built for students and remote workers. Evenings get livelier.
What happens at events?
Live music, open-mic nights, wellness workshops, meditation and yoga sessions, and Kava 101 sessions for the curious. Austin gets a dedicated event space.
Are you hiring?
